6TH GRADE BAND
This is where it all begins and students are given the opportunity to make music on band instruments for the first time ever! Music enhances student concentration, improves motor skills and abilities, and improves student achievement in other academic classes. In band, students will learn the fundamentals of their instrument (basic rhythm concepts, reading and writing skills, and good playing habitats) and perform with students playing other instruments, working as a team. It is an exciting and fun way to explore many new ideas and sound!

- Students will develop a proper embouchure for correct tone production and playing in tune.
- Students will develop proper playing habitats and behaviors that are expected in small/large group ensemble.
- Students will demonstrate proper rehearsal etiquette
- Students will demonstrate proper posture (holding of instrument, sticks, playing position)
- Students will demonstrate proper breathing technique
- Students will demonstrate proper care of their instrument
- Students will demonstrate the ability to recognize, name, describe, and perform the basic elements of music, (rhythm, tempo, melody, harmony, form, timbre, dynamics, articulation, components of the staff, accidentals), using musical terminology.
