CONCERT BAND
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES
This ensemble consists of students in grades 10-12. This ensemble is the top performing concert band at Mesabi East. They play an important part in the development of our young musicians as they are the role models of the school. Students in this ensemble are expected to perform at the Pep Band Games, Coronations, Veterans’ Day, Memorial Day, Graduation and Marching Band. This ensemble travels every three years to an International Music Festival. In 2002 they where recognized as “Most Outstanding Concert Band, regardless of Class Size” at the All-American Music Festival.

- Students will be able to explain and demonstrate the importance of a properly developed embouchure and how it relates to good tone production and good intonation.
- Students will be able to independently read and explain most complex rhythms as well as some highly advanced rhythms.
- Students will be able to play in tune by themselves and with each other.
- Students will be able to describe and define all basic and a variety of other musical terms. Students will continue to expand their knowledge of musical terms as they appear in a variety of forms and languages.
- Students will analyze and identify a variety of different styles of music.
- Students will perform a variety of musical styles with varying degrees of difficulty
